OCOL Week 8 Images are up (in 10 minutes or so...)

It's wild how some days are a complete struggle and others are an embarrassment of riches. I've shot  1-2 hour photowalks and come back with a dozen or more things I like and perhaps a half dozen I really feel good about. Good enough to show someone anyway. Other days, I can't see anything and the pickings are paltry, forget about slim.

The shame and glory about this project is that; you get to see the utter crap that was the best I could do on some days and you have to miss some stuff I loved because only the best survived.

My wife loves John Updike. He wrote novels, poems, magazine articles, review, editorials; there was nothing he didn't do. And he wrote every day. No excuses, no days off. Some of his stuff may have been crap; we may never know. But his legacy is amazing.

Maybe we can all take a lesson there.

OCOL Week 7 ( & 6 & 5) Images Are Up...

Week 7 , Week 6 and Week 5 are up for your viewing enjoyment.

I didn't make it past, I dunno, 5 months or so of my "Commitment"?? It's hard to review that many images and get them up on time, not to mention printing (which we'll talk about in the next post).

But going back over these over a year later, in some cases, really gives me some perspective. Some stuff was truly junk; some was just tired, cliche or pointless; but there were gems hidden in the mess as well.

The images are posted on a one-per-day basis. Unfortunately, that means I get to embarrass myself on those days where the inspiration was just absent, or I waited until the last moment and was forced to make images around the house. This can, of course, result in Cat Pictures. I not proud of that, but you do what you have to do.

I'm working more diligently about going back and getting the remainder completed.

OCOL Week 4 Images are Up

The images from week 4 are posted in the OCOL section. This batch was a bit more of a challenge than the last few. I'm always finding faults with what I've taken and for some days I don't want to pick anything at all. Others are much more interesting and productive.

I'm hoping that's the point of shooting every day; to get better through constant practice.

I need to get better about scheduling my shooting time. I'm frequently waiting 'til too late in the day, or expecting a event later in the day to be food for the day's shoot. Sometimes that doesn't work out too well, but I perhaps treating it like an assignment is another learning opportunity.
